Monrovia, Liberia - "U.S. Ambassador Michael McCarthy has cautioned that the Liberian Government risks losing millions of dollars in U.S. assistance if the Legislature fails to amend the 2005 Trafficking in Person Law."
US Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. McCarthy has sincerely warned the Government of Liberia, of being at risk of losing millions of dollars of assistance from the US Government due to its failure to make changes or even to engage seriously in conversation about an amendment of 2005 Trafficking in Person Law.
He further asserted that Liberia’s returned to the Tier Two Watchlist on Trafficking was a disappointment and reminder of the need for progress.
At the same time, the Ambassador and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) presented a Legal Handbook to the Ministry of Justice, to be used by states prosecutors, before proceeding to the Temple of Justice.
In a similar development, the US Ambassador McCarthy admitted that it has been a difficult year for Liberia and the globe in its entirety, with the raging effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in obstacles around the world, as governments redirected resources to try to prevent the spread of disease.
